Itinerary in Detail

Every safari is tailored to your personal preferences and interests. Below you’ll find a sample itinerary to inspire your own custom-designed journey.

Okonjati Game Reserve

Okonjati Game Reserve

Mount Etjo is located in the heart of the Okonjati Game Reserve. One of the first private Game Reserves established in Namibia. It was founded by world-renowned conservationist Jan Oelofse. Experiencing Wildlife activities and enjoying nature on the Okonjati Game Reserve is memorable and everlasting. The Okonjati Game Reserve is 36,000 hectares large, all pristine natural land, offering over 10,000 mammals sanctuary.

Day 1

Upon your arrival at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will be met in the arrivals hall by a representative of the car hire company holding a sign with your name on it. After a few formalities, the adventure begins!

You will drive through the capital city of Windhoek, and we suggest a stop in Okahandja to visit the woodcarvers’ market. Refreshments or an early lunch can also be enjoyed in this area before driving further north to Mount Etjo Safari Lodge. Drive time is about 3 hours on paved roads, except for the last 20 km on a good gravel road.

This afternoon, after check-in and settling into your room, you will be treated to your first Guided Game Drive from 4-7 pm in an open-sided 4×4 safari vehicle with one of Mount Etjo’s professional guides. It’s exciting to imagine what you might see! You will return to the lodge for dinner, and then you will have an exciting opportunity to watch some magnificent big cats up close! You will view Lions Feeding from a permanent blind structure at 9:15 pm. It’s the perfect way to end the day at Mount Etjo.

Mount Etjo Safari Lodge

Lodge
Okonjati Game Reserve

Home to over 8,000 animals and an impressive variety of bird species the Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary is a true Conservation Area. This historic lodge deservedly carries the name “Etjo,” meaning place of refuge. Mount Etjo Safari Lodge is where the most important Declaration of Namibia’s Independence was signed in 1989 (The Mount Etjo Declaration).

Whether you relax at the swimming pool, at the bar, in the lounge, or in the beautiful Mount Etjo Gardens, you will find that the beautiful scenery will leave you feeling rejuvenated! The waterhole is situated right in front of the lodge, allowing for an all-day game-viewing experience.

Meal Plan: Breakfast & dinner

Onguma Game Reserve

Onguma Game Reserve

Alongside the eastern border of Etosha National Park, Onguma Game Reserve is a more exclusive way for you to enjoy many of the same animals that Etosha has to offer, but without the crowds.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will leave Mount Etjo Safari Lodge and drive north through the towns of Otjiwarango, Otavi and Tsumeb. You will arrive at your next destination, Onguma Forest Camp, in time for lunch. Without any stops, the drive time is approximately 4 hours, 15 minutes.

This afternoon, after lunch and check-in, you can enjoy the camp amenities until until it is time for your Sundowner Drive with one of Onguma’s professional guides on an open-sided 4×4 safari vehicle in the private Onguma Game Reserve.

Day 3

This morning you will have the opportunity for game viewing from an Onkolo Hide at the Onguma Game Reserve. Then, we recommend setting out for a Game Drive through Etosha National Park. You can venture into this vast park and explore its epic waterholes and marvel at the changing landscape and scenery as you search for wildlife. Game drives never get old! No one knows what animals you may find, but hopefully, you’ll find lots. Lunch can be enjoyed at one of the camps in the park, and you can return to Onguma just in time for another magical Namibia sunset or at your discretion. Enjoy the adventure! IMPORTANT NOTE: do NOT exit your vehicle unless you are in one of the park’s gated enclosures or camps.

This evening at Onguma, you will be treated to a Bush Dinner. Dining in the bush is the quintessential safari experience. You will get to experience the unique splendor of dinner under a blanket of a million stars with the distant cries of animals in the air and the smells of a fire-cooked meal wafting over from the pop-up bush kitchen. These are the genuine moments that make you feel truly connected to the wilderness.

Situated in the forested area of a riverine environment, the recently renovated Onguma Forest Camp offers high thatched ceilings, an impressive wine cellar to complement delicious meals served under the stars, a refreshing swimming pool, and an elevated viewing deck both overlooking a large and active waterhole.

Meal Plan: Breakfast & dinner

Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park is a true haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. This magnificent park is renowned for its vast salt pan, which stretches for miles and creates a unique and other-worldly landscape. Etosha is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, leopards and cheetahs to name a few. Visitors can embark on thrilling game drives and witness these incredible animals in their natural habitat.

Day 4

After breakfast at Onguma, you will do another game drive crossing Etosha National Park from east to west, arriving at Etosha Oberland Lodge late afternoon or at your discretion. You can enjoy lunch at one of the camps in the park.

After check-in you can relax and take in the views from the deck at the main lodge or enjoy a dip in the lodge’s pool. This is a great place to relax and recharge!

1x Luxury Suite

Lodge
Etosha National Park

Etosha Oberland Lodge, 10 km southeast of Anderson Gate, is located in a 5000 ha private game reserve which shares a 10 km border with famous Etosha National Park. The lodge’s hallmarks are luxury and plenty of privacy. This remarkable place is superbly suited for safari excursions into Etosha. Upon entering the lobby with the bar and spacious seating areas, the eye is drawn through the open building to the vast savannah, where often animals can be spotted right away. The large infinity pool also offers fantastic views of the open plain in front of the lodge and the two waterholes. As the sun slowly drops over the horizon, it is wonderful to sit back in one of the small private seating islands and watch the spectacle of changing colors. Evening meals are usually served on the outside deck overlooking the well-frequented waterhole, with the exciting sounds of nocturnal nature as background accompaniment. Such a memorable atmosphere…

The lodge’s spacious chalets have been integrated into nature with loving care. They are placed so far apart and aligned so cleverly, that there is no sign of a neighbor. As a result, the rooms offer a high degree of privacy and unobstructed views of the savannah. It’s great to relax on your chalet’s terrace while birds are chirping and zebras are braying in the distance.

Meal Plan: Breakfast

Kunene Region

Day 5

This morning after breakfast, you will travel about 3 hours and 45 minutes west from Etosha Oberland Lodge to Grootberg Lodge via Kamanjab. Watch for the dramatic scenery changes and the wandering Himbas! If you are interested in learning more about the Himba tribe, you can make a stop along the way to visit the Otjikandero Himba Village. Here you can learn about the culture and practices of the OvaHimba, such as their beliefs about the Sacred Fire and the way the red ochre covering known as Otizje is made and how it is applied, which is what gives Himba women their distinctive coloring. The entrance fees are N$300/person.

After arrival and check-in at Grootberg Lodge, you can enjoy some lunch and take in the spectacular views of the Klip River Valley. Later in the afternoon, you will join one of the lodge’s professional guides for a Scenic Sundowner Drive on the Plateau before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Discover the remote and beautiful, wild and picturesque world of Kunene in Namibia’s northwest. This region encompasses a biomass of landscapes neatly arranged parallel to one another, including the forbidden Skeleton Coast, a region of rocks, fog, shipwrecks and desolation, washed by the waters of the Benguela current, which brings Antarctic cold to desert heat. The region’s administrative capital is Opuwo. The Kunene region covers an area of 115,293 square kilometers of the total Namibian land. It is the second largest region after the Kharas region. It represents 4% of the Namibian population.

It can be really hard to take your eyes off the views when you stay at Grootberg Lodge, which is in Damaraland, close to Palmwag. Each of the stone-and-thatch cottages has a private deck that looks out over the spectacular Klip River Valley, and the lodge is part of a conservancy that supports local conservation and community projects.

Meal Plan: Breakfast & dinner

Damaraland

Day 6

You will be traveling a short distance today from Grootberg Lodge to Mowani Mountain Camp on a scenic road through the mountains and the Huab River Valley. Drive time is approximately 2 hours, 10 minutes without any stops.

Your 2-night stay at Mowani Mountain Camp includes all meals, drinks, and activities, so what will you do this afternoon and tomorrow (Day 7)? It’s up to you!

There’s lots to choose from:
Visit Twyfelfontein (UNESCO World Heritage Site – Rock Art), Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes with a lodge guide. Here you will get a peek into Africa’s ancient hunter- gatherer cultures when you hike through the impressive prehistoric rock art at Twyfelfontein.

Damara Living Museum Excursion with a lodge guide. This is an experience not to be missed. You’ll get a glimpse of a day in the life of the Damara people and how they live, from making fire to singing and dancing.

Join a lodge guide for an Elephant/Nature Drive departing at 6:30 a.m. for an off-road adventure exploring the dry Huab River bed in search of desert-adapted elephants. Keep your eyes open for giraffe, ostrich, oryx, and springbok. These animals also frequent this area. This drive lasts 4-6 hours and includes drinks.

Mowani Mountain Camp

Lodge
Damaraland

A fantastic base for exploring the world-famous rock engravings of Twyfelfontein, Mowani Mountain Camp has bungalow-style rooms that blend in beautifully with the rocky hills of Damaraland. The camp has a swimming pool, a restaurant and a bar, all of which take advantage of the camp’s terrific location.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Swakopmund & Skeleton Coast National Park

Day 8

Leaving Damaraland this morning, you will travel west through the Springbokwasser gate of Skeleton Coast National Park with ever-changing scenery on your way to Swakopmund. We recommend a quick stop to visit the Cape Cross Fur Seal Colony before your next stop in Henties Bay for lunch at a hotel with a view over the sea. Finally, we recommend a stop at a shipwreck near the main road for some photo opportunities.

You should arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon for check-in. The front desk can assist you with dinner recommendations and reservations at one of the great restaurants on the water.

Strand Hotel Swakopmund

Lodge
Swakopmund

Skeleton Coast National Park stretches for many remote miles along Namibia’s northwestern shoreline and is simply magnificent. It is another world where crashing waves meet seas of sand dunes, with shipwrecks marooned in the sands in many places. Today’s destination is Swakopmund, which is an appealing seaside town, with some really lovely architecture (including Lutheran churches and German half-timbered houses) and really big sand dunes are never far away.

You’re staying right alongside the beach at Strand Hotel Swakopmund. The bright, modern rooms have views of the ocean and facilities include a beachside terrace bar and restaurant, a spa, and a gym. It’s a Swakopmund classic with a very modern personality, and it’s the perfect place to sit back and relax, as the Atlantic Ocean views seem to go on forever while you enjoy a drink or a meal.

Meal Plan: Breakfast

Sossusvlei

Immerse yourself in the wonder that is Sossusvlei. There is no more beautiful sea of sand dunes anywhere in southern Africa. There are so many possible vantage points from which to enjoy the view: from high atop one of the dunes that line the valley, from the valley floor near sunrise or sunset, or where an orange dune towers above the iconic silhouette of a lone acacia.

Le Mirage Resort & Spa

Hotel
Sossusvlei

Day 10

Today, we recommend a visit to Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, Dune 45, Big Daddy and Sesriem Canyon. The photo opportunities here are incredible! Don’t worry, you can’t get lost here. There is only one road in and out of the Sesriem entrance gate.

Deadvlei is a white clay basin with petrified trees estimated to be over a 1000 years old. Walking distance from the parking area to Deadvlei is about 1.2 km after driving the very sandy gateway; however, we recommend you take the NWR shuttle from the Deadvlei parking area to Deadvlei for N$200, as many people get stuck in the deep sand, which can be a costly recovery. You will definitely want to spend some time here hiking up and down the dunes to get different perspectives. You may want to climb Big Daddy, which towers over Deadvlei. We also recommend a late afternoon visit to the Sesriem slot canyons just inside the Sesriem entrance gate. This is a great place for a hike! The gate closes at sunset.

A quaint, almost eccentric property architecturally, located about 20km from the entrance gate to Sossusvlei and the dunes. This fortress-like hotel in the middle of the desert has a pool and spa, and a waterhole frequented by desert oryx and spotted brown hyena.

Meal Plan: Breakfast & dinner

Kalahari Region

Experience the empty horizons, piercing blue desert skies, and incredible sunrises and sunsets as you explore Namibia’s Kalahari Region. Part of a desert that extends into Botswana and South Africa, and the largest desert in southern Africa, the Kalahari is the homeland of the San people, and wildlife (including gemsbok and sable) is also a possibility here.

Day 11

This morning, you will drive southeast, from Le Mirage Resort & Spa to Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch. This is approximately a 3-hour 30-minute drive. You will arrive midday and have time for some lunch and relaxation before your late afternoon Sundowner Drive & Cheetah Excursion.

Sundowner Drive & Cheetah Excursion You will board one of the lodge’s game drive vehicles with a professional guide to experience the thrill of spotting wildlife amid magical red dunes, and then enjoy a sundowner atop one.

The Cheetah Excursion gives you the chance to get up close and personal with the fastest land animal on Earth. You’ll have an opportunity to shoot unforgettable photos of these gorgeous, graceful predatory cats. The Bagatelle Lodge, in collaboration with the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), is a recognized site for the conservation of this species.

Your last day in Namibia

This is where your safari will come to an end. We hope that you’ve had an incredible adventure, that you have seen all the animals you dreamed of seeing, and that you will return home with honeymoon memories to last a lifetime!

Day 12

San Bushman Walk This morning you will walk with the indigenous people of the Kalahari to their demonstration village and learn about the ancient traditions and secrets of their ancestors, get to know their survival skills, and keep the past alive with them. On the walk, you will be shown how to collect water in ostrich eggs, how to set traps, which plants are suitable for medicine, and how to make pearl and ostrich jewelry. This is a truly unforgettable experience and a fantastic way to touch African culture.

This afternoon, it’s time to head back to the Hosea Kutako International Airport in time to make your departure flight. The drive time to the airport will be approximately 3 hours.

We wish you safe travels home and hope you will forever enjoy the incredible Namibia honeymoon safari memories you are taking with you!
