Itinerary in Detail

Every safari is tailored to your personal preferences and interests. Below you’ll find a sample itinerary to inspire your own custom-designed journey.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Welcome to Maun, Botswana! This is where your safari dreams start to become a reality. Watch as the sun sets out over the eternal horizon of the salt pans, or watch lions hunt along the shore of the often-dry Boteti River. It’s all possible in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, an excellent park that also hosts an annual zebra migration, has meerkats and brown hyenas, and generally sees fewer visitors than most other Botswana parks.

Day 1

Upon arrival at the Maun Airport, you will be greeted by personnel holding a sign with your name. This individual will escort you to your flight to Leroo La Tau, your first stop on your Botswana safari.

Your 2-night stay at Leroo La Tau is all-inclusive and includes daily scheduled activities (see information below for more details), all meals, refreshments, local spirits, wines (excluding premium brands) and laundry service.

The lodge offers guided game drives in the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park focusing on the exceptional wildlife sightings along the Boteti River. Depending on the water level, boat activities are also provided. Optional cultural excursions can be arranged to Khumaga Village.

Leroo La Tau translates as ‘lion’s paw’ but, although the surrounding area features abundant Lion, Zebra and Wildebeest, it also boasts Chobe Bushbuck, Leopard, Cheetah, Brown and Spotted Hyena, Impala, Kudu, Jackal, Porcupine, Genet and Caracal, to name but a few.

Please note: Owing to their remote location within the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, the Makgadikgadi Pans themselves are not visited on daily scheduled activities from Leroo La Tau.

Sit on your own private deck at Leroo La Tau Lodge and look out over Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, as wildlife comes down to drink at the Boteti River. You can expect to see zebras, elephants, and so much more. Lions and other predators are also possible. The camp itself has large, luxurious bungalows, as well as beautiful public areas, with a bar, restaurant and swimming pool.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Moremi Game Reserve

Moremi Game Reserve

Moremi Game Reserve represents all that’s good about the Okavango Delta, both in terms of wildlife (the Big Five is always a possibility) and landscapes. Moremi is a peninsula that unfurls deep into the Delta, and because it is surrounded by water and islands, the wildlife encounters can be incredible. In the water, watch for hippos and crocs. On dry land, there are elephants, big cats and so much more to see.

Day 3

Today you will be transferred from Leroo La Tau to Camp Xakanaxa via air. Flight time is approximately 45 minutes. Have your camera ready! The views are breathtaking.

Your 3-night stay at Camp Xakanaxa is all-inclusive and includes daily scheduled activities (see information below for more details), all meals, refreshments, local spirits, wines (excluding premium brands) and laundry service.

The ancient riverine forests, open savannah, serpentine channels and seasonal floodplains that surround the camp make for a varied habitat of exceptional fauna and flora. The camp is one of few offering a year-round land and water game-viewing experience, in open 4×4 safari vehicles or powerboats. The diverse habitat ensures prolific sightings of Elephant, Buffalo, Hyena, Giraffe, Hippo, Wildebeest, Kudu, Lechwe, Lion and Leopard, among many others. Birding here is spectacular as well.

Safari activities are conducted by licensed guides eager to share their in-depth knowledge and impart the treasured secrets of this great wilderness.

Moremi Game Reserve

Here at Camp Xakanaxa you’re staying in one of the best positions anywhere in Moremi Game Reserve, where you’ll surely see so many of the animals for which the Okavango Delta is famous. The birdlife here is incredible, thanks to the many trees by the riverbank, and almost everything is made from wood, so you’ll feel like you’re immersed in the local environment. Enjoy the pool, dining and lounge area, and there’s even a small library.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Okavango Delta

You’re in for a real treat in the Okavango Delta, one of southern Africa’s iconic safari destinations. Partly it’s the landscapes of islands, rivers and lakes that you’ll love, but these are also the backdrop to an astonishing array of wildlife. At a minimum, you’ll see lots of giraffes, elephants, crocs, hippos, zebras, buffaloes and more, and all three of the big cats are often seen as well.

Day 6

Today you will be transferred via air from Camp Xakanaxa to Camp Okavango. Flight time is a quick 10 minutes. Adventure awaits!

Your 3-night stay at Camp Okavango is all-inclusive and includes daily scheduled activities (see information below for more details), all meals, refreshments, local spirits, wines (excluding premium brands) and laundry service.

Camp Okavango activities are water-based and are conducted by experienced professional guides who will expertly navigate guests through the many meandering, reed-lined waterways. Roam the vast expanses of water from the comfort of a modern motorboat or explore the intricacies of the Okavango Delta the quiet old-fashioned way, in the traditional mokoro (dugout canoe).

For those wanting to get a little closer to nature, guided bush walks are conducted on a number of the nearby islands, offering an opportunity to track some of the larger land-based species that inhabit this water wilderness. Birding opportunities are outstanding and anglers may put their skill against bream and tiger fish. Camp Okavango is a water- based camp and game-drive activities, using safari vehicles, are not possible; however, because you are staying 3-nights at this camp, you will be treated to a scenic helicopter flight over the delta during your stay.

Okavango Delta

You’ll fall in love with the Okavango Delta at Camp Okavango. It’s in the heart of fantastic wildlife country and surrounded by magnificent Delta scenery. The camp itself is superbly designed, with large and lovely rooms with wood floors and expansive decks, all spaced nicely amid the trees. Walkways weave through the shade to the lounge and dining area, as well as to the swimming pool.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Chobe National Park

You can look forward to a world-class wildlife experience in Chobe National Park. Savuti, which lies within Chobe’s boundaries, is famous for its ferocious lions and leopards, while Chobe Riverfront, close to Kasane, is a wonderful place to see big elephants, big cats, and plenty of action as wildlife comes down to drink by the riverbank.

Day 9

Today you will be transferred from Camp Okavango to Chobe Game Lodge via air. The flight time is approximately 1 hour. Grab your camera and be ready, you never know what you may see!

Your 2-night stay at Chobe Game Lodge in Chobe National Park is all-inclusive and includes daily scheduled activities (see information below for more details), all meals, refreshments, local spirits, wines (excluding premium brands) and laundry service.

Chobe Game Lodge offers a choice of land or water-based activities and the most complete game experience in the Chobe National Park.

Early-morning and late-afternoon game drives are conducted by expert guides in open-sided 4×4 vehicles to ensure maximum visibility of Chobe National Park’s spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife. Chobe Game Lodge has introduced four electric-powered game drive vehicles for a more immersive, carbon-emission free safari. Meanwhile, riverside game viewing is done from the lodges full fleet of solar-electric powered safari boats offering silent safaris on Botswana’s renowned Chobe River.

Chobe’s diverse wildlife roams in abundance – it is, for instance, home to the largest concentration of elephant in Africa. During the dry season these large herds, as well as vast herds of buffalo, congregate on the fertile flood plains along the Chobe River to drink, bathe and play. There are frequent sightings of lion, African wild dog, puku, red lechwe, sable, giraffe and roan antelope. Going on safari never gets old, as one never knows what you may see!

Expect good service, fine food, a bar and a swimming pool.
